Two days ago, I received an email from
Mrs Joyce Williams of bigpond dot com telling me that I’ve been selected from my email coupon number and have been awarded 300,000 pounds only.
See the pic below.
The above is so funny. I am not stupid. This is a scam. How could I win a lottery when I\’ve never even bought a ticket in my life. To put things into perspective and for some fun, I decided to play along with them. I actually replied and said What can I do to get the 300,000 pound?.
And this is what they responded.
They’ve actually requested my details and told me the method of payments (see below). Replied and gave them my details (Of course not all of the details are true).
Within few hours, a reply email came to me asking me further details and telling me to contact the courier delivery called Acorn Express Services. I guess they have an auto-responder to do this kind of stuff. I purposely sent and email to this so called Acorn Express Services and let’s see what’s going to happen next.
But, here\’s my observation:
- Please note the telephone number: +44 70xx. As I am dealing with lots of people in London so I know this is not a correct no for London. I did some research on this no and I found out that, these +44 70xx numbers involve emails that are sent from Nigeria and other West African countries. More about this at 419 scam.
- Made some checking with Camelot Lottery. The fact is Camelot Lottery does not award prizes to people without any tickets.
- The Acorn Services is a scam. I know even by looking at the email. scam on Acorn Services.
So let’s see what they are up to next. I might just send them a dollar for their effort
Here’s a good website to check UK fraud is at http://www.data-wales.co.uk/.
Tell me what do you think of this scam?
