If you find it too difficult not to have them—for example, if you need coffee to stay awake at work—drink it through a straw so the liquid has minimal contact with your teeth.

It’s not just about what you drink though. The foods you eat can be just as bad. Things like ketchup, soy sauce and just about anything that’s high in acidity. Yes, this even means citrus fruits you may be eating to enjoy better health. Sadly, they hurt your teeth, so if you must have them, wash your mouth out immediately.

These foods are damaging not just because of acidity though, but because the sugar in them feeds bacteria living in your mouth. Feeding them means they get to do more damage to your enamel.

Brush Better

Hopefully, it comes as no surprise that you have to brush your teeth regularly to achieve a whiter smile. This means at least twice a day, but you should strive to do better by making time to do it after every meal. If you can’t make this happen, then at least wash your mouth out after every meal and look to fit one more brushing in between the other two.

When you do brush, though, make sure you’re not doing more harm than good. If you’re brushing too hard, the bristles on your brush will eventually damage the enamel you’re trying to protect.

Lastly, use a timer to ensure you’re brushing your teeth for at least two minutes. Divide the top of your mouth into two halves, do the same with the bottom and then spend 30 seconds on each.

DIY Whitening

You can spend a lot of money at the store buying all kinds of whitening products. Professional bleaching is even more expensive. However, you can also use baking soda for a DIY supplement. Just put a little on top of the toothpaste you normally use once it’s on the brush. You can also use it by itself if that’s easier.

Eat a Healthy Diet

Aside from avoiding the bad foods we mentioned above, you also need plenty of vitamin D and calcium in your diet. Combined with regular sun exposure, vitamin D helps your body absorb greater amounts of calcium which ultimately produce teeth capable of warding off that which would stain them.

When is Cancer Surgery an Option?

The quickest way of removing a tumour from the body, surgery is the oldest way of tackling a cancer. Of course surgery is the most viable option when a cancer in a relatively exposed area of the body such as the arms, legs and neck and removal in this manner has more benefits than long term damage.

A person suspected of having cancer might actually have surgery before even being diagnosed. A doctor may want to take out a very small portion of tissue in the suspected area for thorough analysis. This is known as a biopsy and can help determine not only if someone really does have a cancerous growth, but at what speed and strength that tumour is attempting to grow at.
